  • Please share if you can. We (our local Help For Heroes Team - yes my weekends are very busy too) spent time with Julie at Future Roots last summer. The site is amazing and what they are doing for the children is outstanding. It'd be a real loss if they had to shut.

    March 15

  • The finished oversized back embroidery, as promised. Needed 3 hoopings and many hours of stitching and prep.

    March 13

  • A quick look at today's work. An over sized embroidery that needed splitting into 3 parts to be able to work successfully. Watch the machine in action, it's fascinating. I'll try and get one uploaded soon with it changing colours. (Sorry for the wobbly image, I filmed it from my phone)

  • Tense times on the cutting table..... this stunning embroidered fabric comes in at a whopping £3000 a panel. Time to keep the scissors steady!!

    March 02

  • I had to share this. Last year I spent a little while with Katie, she was looking to take textiles for GCSE. We spent some time learning sewing, dress making and pattern fitting skills. This is her final piece for her course. Isn't it stunning. Well done Katie!

    February 06

  • Update: I have decided that it's time to refocus my little business. And I will be removing certain services from what I currently offer. I will no longer undertake dressmaking general. In certain circumstances I may take on small amounts depending on my current work load. However an hourly rate will be charged, rather than the current flat rate. I will also no longer be making curtains or blinds. I may take on curtain alterations such as shortening, although this will depend on my current work load as with the dress making. For making up of curtains and blinds I am happy to recommend Belinda Dunger, belindadunger@hotmail.co.uk. (Shaftesbury) If anyone has any local dressmakers they are happy to recommend please let me know so I can pass on their details. If you have any further questions please get in touch. laura@thelittlepincushion.co.uk

    November 21

  • It's been a busy few months at The Little Pincushion. But now we're getting to the end of the wedding season, and school is about to start up again. I'll be preparing some sewing workshops. A few basic ones to start with moving on to more complex skills. If you're interested please get in touch. The first one will be a cushion work shop. Learn how to cut your fabric to the right size for your cushion pad, make piping, add a zip, and applique for decoration. As well as decorative closures such as button holes and envelope finishes. You will need to bring your own machine, although I do have a spare one should anyone like to borrow it. Details of dates to follow.
